As a Trustee or Governor

Outstanding governance is vital to the success of our Trust and our academies. People from all walks of life have been governors at our academies. It can be a highly rewarding experience and a chance to contribute to the local community while gaining and developing your skills further.

Become a Trustee of Equinox Learning Trust

Equinox Learning Trust is governed by a Trust Board made up of highly committed individuals who bring a range of skills and experiences to ensure robust governance and oversight. The Trustees work together to enable excellent education for all the children in our care, by providing strategic leadership, support and challenge to the executive leaders of the Trust and the local school governing bodies.

Becoming a Trustee of a multi-academy trust can be a challenging and rewarding experience, allowing you to develop your skills, meet new people and make an invaluable contribution to the lives of thousands of pupils, students and staff.

Equinox Learning Trust Trustees fulfil the role of trustee under charity and company law, and collectively the Trust Board has three key functions defined by the Department for Education:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the Trust’s executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the Trust and all its students, and the performance of all staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the Trust and ensuring money is well spent.

This role is a voluntary role typically requiring a commitment of 6 to10 days per annum.

There are no pre-requisites for becoming a Trustee or Governor and Equinox Learning Trust welcomes a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives on its Board and committees. An understanding and experience of governance in any sector would be advantageous but not essential, but a commitment to our mission and values is vital.

Current vacancies for Trustees or school governors from within our Trust can be found on the ‘Join Us’ page.  If there are no applicable vacancies at present, you can express your interest in becoming a trustee or school governor by contacting us

We will arrange an informal conversation about the role with either the Chair of the Trust Board or the Chief Executive Officer.

Our School Governing Bodies are made up of individuals from a range of backgrounds, who are committed to the success of our schools and to supporting the pupils, students and communities they serve. They work together to provide strategic leadership, support and challenge to the Headteacher and school leadership team.
